We Win Again! Oh Wait, That's A Bad Thing

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

Australia has the dubious reputation of being the allergy capital of the world, with the UK following close behind.

In Australia, food allergies in infants, children and adults are such a serious concern that the federal government has approved a $26.9 million investment into allergy prevention and management.

The funding will create two new organisations, the National Allergy Council and the National Allergy Centre of Excellence (NACE), that will work together to deliver world-leading initiatives and research to improve consumer safety and prevent anaphylaxis deaths.

This is particularly good news as World Allergy Week is promoted to raise awareness of the many various allergic conditions

The theme for World Allergy Week 2022 was bronchial asthma and respiratory allergic diseases.

The correlation between asthma and allergic airway diseases is significant.

We do know that asthma and allergies in the upper airways frequently co-exist, exacerbating breathing difficulty, wheezing, cough, and other respiratory problems.

If you are looking for guidance with respiratory issues, ASCIA (The Australian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy) offers a range of respiratory allergy resources at www.allergy.org.au/allergic-rhinitis.

The theme for

World Allergy Week 2023 is

Climate Change Worsens Allergies.

Climate change can have various impacts on human health, including the exacerbation of allergies.

Some of the some of the measurable effects of climate change include intense droughts, increased air pollution, water scarcity, earlier and more intense pollen seasons, severe fires, flooding, catastrophic storms, and declining biodiversity.

All of the above are impactful on the health of #allergysufferers.

People with allergies and #asthma are susceptible to these effects of climate change and must frequently adapt their health care as well as aspects of their daily lives.

Climate change can affect individuals with allergies due to:

  1. Pollen Levels: Climate change can lead to changes in temperature, precipitation patterns, and atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, which can affect the production, distribution, and allergenicity of pollen. Higher temperatures and increased carbon dioxide levels can result in longer and more intense pollen seasons.

  2. Increased Air Pollution: These pollutants can act as irritants to the respiratory system and exacerbate existing allergies, making individuals more susceptible to allergy symptoms like wheezing, coughing, and difficulty breathing.

  3. Changes in Allergen Distribution: Climate change can alter the geographical distribution and abundance of plants, trees, and other allergenic sources. These changes can expose individuals to new allergenic sources or change the timing and intensity of exposure to familiar allergens, leading to increased allergy symptoms

  4. Extreme Weather Events: can contribute to the release of allergenic particles into the air, such as mould spores. Additionally, the stress and disruption caused by these events can weaken the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to allergies.

Individuals with allergies should recognize the significance of these potential effects and adopt suitable measures to effectively control and alleviate their symptoms.

The human body has an amazing ability to adapt to its surrounds when it is in optimal working order.

Chiropractic is an exceptional therapy for treating a range of these allergy conditions as its sole purpose is to restore the body to its natural state of self healing.

In Australia, we are most fortunate to have a thorough certification process for Doctors of Chiropractic and this is a therapy which can be covered by health insurance.

Chiropractic therapy has been found to be valuable for relieving allergy symptoms and in some cases stopping allergies at their source.

This of course should be the main course of action for pregnant or post-natal women.

These patients are unable to take heavy medications that may be prescribed for symptom relief.

Natural, holistic therapy is best and chiropractic is exceptionally effective in managing the symptoms of sinusitis and allergies.

Chiropractic adjustments may also ease the severity of allergy symptoms as well as the incidence of occurrence.

There are various reasons why Chiropractic is so effective.

Ø Vertebral subluxation, or spinal misalignment results in serious disruptions of messages from the central nervous system to the entire body.

Ø Chiropractic adjustments realign the spine resulting in reduced strain on the body’s nervous system thereby allowing the immune system to operate efficiently.

Ø Overall stress levels and anxiety can be managed by chiropractic therapies and remember a stress-free body is more adept at fighting off harmful allergens.

Ø A body in sync can also allow the immune system to recognise some allergens as harmless and not overreact to them. Asthma patients breathe easier after chiropractic therapy and asthma symptoms are diminished.

Those who think Chiropractic care is only about back pain and spinal manipulation could not be more wrong. 🤣

Chiropractic therapies promote whole-body wellness as the main focus is on the central nervous system.

As with any medical condition, diet and nutrition, quality sleep and avoidance of stress and anxiety will benefit your condition and your health overall.

Apart from using chiropractic therapies to treat the condition immediately, qualified chiropractors can create a whole-body treatment plan for you to follow to ensure you remain allergy-free.

Allowing the body to self-heal also means damaging medications may not be needed to manage the condition. And that would be a wonderful thing.
